Wild Things Captured (on film)!: STRI Photos of the Week
The Smithsonian Tropical Research Institute (STRI) in Panama is dedicated to understanding biological diversity. STRI traces its history to the construction of the Panama Canal, when scientists became interested in surveying the flora and fauna of the area to control diseases that are spread by insects, such as yellow fever and malaria. The lush tropical setting is "crawling" with colorful moths, snakes, toads, and other creatures in the flowers and trees. Visit STRI's photo of the week archive and peruse hundreds of detailed photos that you can set as a desktop wallpaper.
Your tax-deductible gift today will allow millions to experience the Smithsonian's exhibitions, museums, websites, and conservation, preservation, and educational programs.
